The San Francisco Chronicle had an article worth reading  7/16/10.  The authors, from Bloomberg News, see house prices falling for another three years with prices essentially back to 2003 levels in most of the US.  They see Buyers on the sidelines,  waiting for prices to hit bottom.  “Once you reach a bottom, it will take three or four years for prices to begin to rise 1 or 2 percent a year”, according to Oliver Chang, U.S. housing strategist for Morgan Stanley, San Francisco. The good news is that in July 2010, California was one of three states that had the largest gains in the housing index.

We’re lucky to live and work in the San Francisco Bay Area, even though our neighborhoods have seen prices decline over the past 2 ½ – 3 years.  Most of the East Bay continues to hold its value better than other areas.  If you’re here to stay, with interest rates at historic lows, it’s still a great time to buy a home.
